On 4 Nov 2019, CG and Dep CG had a meeting with Mr. Agha Shahab Ahmed Khan, the newly elected  President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). Below are points of discussion that were raised during the meeting with the KCCI President and KCCI members.

  2. FTA: The members were eager to know the present status of Thailand-Pakistan FTA, questioning product items listed in FTA, which CG replied that at the moment the list is in consideration of the Pakistan authorities and expressed his hope that it would be finalized soonest.
  3. Tourism: One KCCI member wondered that why Thailand gives visa-on-arrival status to Indian tourists while Pakistanis need to apply for visas at the Thai Embassies/Consulates. Nonetheless, KCCI would like to see more Thai tourists in Pakistan and requested Thailand to help promote Thai tourists in Pakistan.
  4. Pak-Thai Business House (PTBH): Many KCCI members would like to learn more about PTBH. CG suggested that having another separate meeting between PTBH and KCCI for more detailed information would be a better option.
  5. Education: Both sides shared information where Pakistan and Thailand provided scholarships to each other and wished to see more both Thai and Pakistani students in the two countries. CG praised Mr. Ghazali Akhtar of IndusPak Advisors who pay a leading role in bringing more Pakistani students to study in Thailand.
  6. Exchanging Views: Pakistan views Thai products with good quality. One KCCI member mentioned that even Thai gingers taste is much juicier than Chinese ones.  Another KCCI member said that he shifted his marble exports from Thailand to China because he was facing high Thai import duties. (In Thailand, marble from foreign countries is subject to both customs duty and excise tax).
  7. Prospects: KCCI would like to see more Thai booths and B2B by Thai participants at My Karachi Trade Fair on 3-5 April 2020 at Karachi Expo Center. In term of investment in Pakistan, they are of the view that Thailand should invest in 1) fish can industry 2) controlled atmosphere cold storage plant and marine products 3) aguaculture farm 4) agricultural and industrial joint venture 5) processing facilities of agri-products 6) auto assembly line 7) tourism industry 8) electric and electronic industry 9) jewelry industry 10) tissue culture lab.
