20-21 June 2019: Thailand Board of Investment (BOI)'s delegation visited several Pakistani agencies in Karachi to explore opportunities for the Thai investments. The agencies that they met were 1) Karachi BOI regional office 2) Sindh Investment Department 3) Karachi Export processing Zone 4) Shahzad Apparel Factory 5) State Bank of Pakistan 6) Pak Suzuki Motor 7) Karachi Fisheries Harbor Authority 8) Karachi Port Trust 9) Khuram Brothers. The delegation, comprised 3 senior investment promotion officials from BOI, 5 researchers from Fiscal Policy Research Institute Foundation, and 1 diplomat from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, led by Miss Sithee Tanboonteck, accompanied by Consul General of Thailand in Karachi and the Consulate’s staff, held detailed discussion on situation evolving in Pakistan after initiation of Belt and Road initiative and CPEC with particular reference to the role of Pakistan. Fishing industries and Tourism sectors were among the areas that the group had highlighted. 

Several questions the delegation had prepared in advance before coming to Pakistan were well answered by the Pakistani side. The Thai delegation were happy with the results of the discussion. Information that they gathered from the Pakistani agencies will be presented to the relevant businessmen in Thailand. Mr. Thatree Chauvachata, Consul General of Thailand in Karachi, wishes to see Thai investors to come to invest in Pakistan, especially in fishing sector which accounts more than half of Pakistan’s exports to Thailand.
