เมื่อวันที่ 18 เมษายน 2569 สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ เมืองการาจีได้จัดงานสงกรานต์ขึ้นที่บริเวณสนามหญ้าริมสระว่ายน้ำของโรงแรม Avari Towers โดยมีผู้เข้าร่วมประมาณ 200 คน ประกอบด้วยตัวแทนคณะทูตต่างชาติในเมืองการาจี สมาชิก Pakistan – Thailand Friendship Association and Business Forum ชุมชนชาวไทยในเมืองการาจี และชาวปากีสถานจากหลายภาคส่วนซึ่งเป็น Friends of Thailand ที่เคยให้การสนับสนุนงานของสถานกงสุลใหญ่ฯ รวมถึงสมาชิกชมรมสตรีอาเซียนในเมืองการาจี และคณะนักกีฬา Special Olympics และคณะนักเรียนจาก Masterclass Pakistan

‎ในช่วงแรกของงาน นายสุรเชษฐ์ บุญธินันท์ กงสุลใหญ่ ณ เมืองการาจีได้กล่าวถึงความสำคัญของเทศกาลสงกรานต์ซึ่ง UNESCO ได้ประกาศให้เป็นมรดกโลกที่จับต้องไม่ได้เมื่อปี 2566 และกล่าวว่า ในเทศกาลสงกรานต์ครั้งนี้ตนขอใช้น้ำเป็นสื่อในการส่งเสริมความสัมพันธ์และมิตรภาพระหว่างไทยและปากีสถาน เพราะน้ำนอกจากเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของการชำระล้างสิ่งไม่ดีและเคราะห์ร้ายออกไป และการก้าวเข้าสู่ปีใหม่ด้วยจิตใจที่สดใสเบิกบานแล้ว การรดน้ำอย่างอ่อนโยนลงบนมือของผู้ใหญ่ที่เราเคารพยังถือเป็นประเพณีและวัฒนธรรมอันดีงามของคนไทยในการแสดงความเคารพและขอพรจากท่านอีกด้วย กงสุลใหญ่ฯ จึงขอเชิญชวนให้พ่อแม่พี่น้อง ครูนักเรียน นายจ้างและลูกจ้าง เข้าร่วมในพิธีรดน้ำดำหัว ซึ่งเป็นประเพณีที่มีขึ้นอย่างแพร่หลายในช่วงสงกรานต์ ไม่เพียงแต่ในประเทศไทย แต่ยังรวมถึงในกัมพูชา เมียนมา เวียดนาม และบางส่วนในประเทศจีนด้วย ดังนั้น จึงถือเป็นโอกาสดีที่ทั้งคนไทยและคนปากีสถานจากหลายสาขาอาชีพได้มาร่วมประเพณีอันดีงามในครั้งนี้

‎นอกจากนี้ในงานยังมีกิจกรรมอื่นๆ ได้แก่ การแสดงนาฏศิลป์ไทย กิจกรรมสันทนาการและการละเล่นเพื่อเชื่อมความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างชาวไทยและชาวปากีสถาน รวมถึงการนำเสนออาหารไทยแนวสตรีทฟู๊ดโดยพ่อครัวจากทำเนียบฯ และการนำเสนออาหารแนวสตรีทฟู๊ดของปากีสถานโดยนักเรียนจากสถาบัน Masterclass Pakistan ซึ่งถือเป็นการแสดงออกถึงความสัมพันธ์ทางด้านวัฒนธรรมระหว่างประชาชนต่อประชาชนของทั้งสองประเทศอีกด้วย ซึ่งกิจกรรมดังกล่าวได้ช่วยสร้างบรรยากาศที่สนุกสนาน เต็มไปด้วยรอยยิ้มและความประทับใจให้กับผู้เข้าร่วมงานเป็นอย่างยิ่ง

‎On April 18, 2026, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Karachi organized a Songkran Festival event on the poolside lawn of the Avari Towers Hotel. Approximately 200 people attended, including representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Karachi, members of the Pakistan–Thailand Friendship Association and Business Forum, the Thai community in Karachi, and Pakistanis from various sectors who are Friends of Thailand and have supported the Consulate-General’s activities. The event was also attended by members of the ASEAN Ladies Circle in Karachi, Special Olympics athletes, and students from Masterclass Pakistan.

‎At the beginning of the event, Mr. Surashete Boontinand, Consul-General of Thailand in Karachi, spoke about the significance of the Songkran Festival, which UNESCO recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2023. He noted that for this year’s celebration, he wished to use water as a symbol to convey the meaning of friendship between Thailand and Pakistan. Water represents the cleansing of misfortune and negativity, and the welcoming of the new year with a refreshed spirit. Gently pouring water over the hands of elders is a Thai way of showing respect and seeking blessings. He therefore invited parents, teachers, students, employers, and employees to participate in the Rod Nam Dam Hua ceremony, a widely practiced tradition during Songkran—not only in Thailand, but also in Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, and parts of China. The occasion provided a valuable opportunity for both Thais and Pakistanis from diverse professions to take part in this meaningful tradition together.

‎The event also featured various activities, including performances, recreational activities, traditional games, and opportunities to strengthen connections between Thai and Pakistani participants. Thai street food was prepared by chefs from the Consul General’s residence, while Pakistani street food was presented by students from Masterclass Pakistan. These activities highlighted the people-to-people cultural ties between the two countries and helped create a lively atmosphere filled with smiles and lasting impressions for all attendees.
